The Mangalore division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has proposed Volvo services from the city to Nasik, via Pune; Mumbai via Goa; and Chennai via Krishnagiri. It also plans to augment the Volvo bus services to Bangalore and Chennai. In all, 18 Volvo buses will be introduced, according to Senior Divisional Controller P.B. Karumbaiah. The division will operate 40 to 50 more buses to destinations in Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh soon. It is waiting for the State Government to sign agreements with its neighbours to introduce the buses. Some of the destinations to be covered are Kasaragod in Kerala, Kurnool in Andhra and Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Details and other destinations to be covered in due course will be announced soon. All these services are likely to be introduced by the end of October or after the Dasara celebrations in Mysore, for which the KSRTC will deploy at least 500 buses. The Mangalore division has replaced 40 of the 115 super deluxe Rajahamsa services with buses that have longer chassis, better air suspension and comfortable seats. .
