BANGALORE: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited packed too many guns for Army Green XI in the Synergy Super Division league hockey tournament here on Saturday. Converting all its three penalty corners, BPCL went on to notch up a 5-1 victory over the Army second team. Gurpreet (fifth and 57th) scored twice off penalty corners and Amar Aiyamma scored three goals (20th, 45th and 63rd). Amar’s first goal was off a penalty corner sweep. Varun Kumar (66th) scored Army Green’s consolation goal off a penalty corner. In another match, Fortis edged past Army Service Corps 1-0. Damandeep Singh (ninth) scored the match winner. Match drawnAction resumed in the Super Division football league at the Football stadium after a six-day rain break with a goalless draw as the neighbouring units — LRDE and ADE — failed to break the deadlock in a keenly-contested tie here on Saturday. Ultra MarathonIndia’s first Ultra Marathon — where the distances run by the runners are greater than the standard marathon — will be conducted by Runners For Life and held at the outskirts of Bangalore on December 16. After the Midnight Marathon, held early this year, Bangalore and its active runners are out for yet another unique experience. A combination of trail and road-running, the Ultra Marathon is the brainchild of Runners For Life, a division of The Fuller Life and caters to distances varying from the normally-attempted 52km up to 104km, but in the stipulated time deadline of 12 hours. “Adequate aid and medical stations will be made available throughout the entire course” according to a release from the Runners For Life. Volleyball trialsSelection trials for the State boys and girls’ volleyball teams will be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium Outdoor Courts here on October 1 and 2. Players born on or after January 1, 1994 are eligible to attend the trials. The selected teams will compete in the National mini volleyball championship commencing at Bhilwara in Rajasthan from October 23. Sachin triumphsAt Mysore, Sachin N. Bhargav of Govt. PU College, Kuvempunagar, Mysore, and M. Vimal of Vijaya Vittala PU College, Mysore, tied with 4.5 points from five rounds, but the former’s better progressive score — 20 to the latter’s 18 — helped him clinch the title in the district-level PU chess tournament for boys on Saturday.
