CUTTACK: Oriya naval officer Commander Dinesh Swain who was named one of the suspects in the sensational naval war room leak case has got a clean chit from the CBI. The premier investigating agency probing the case returned all the seized items of Swain in New Delhi earlier this week and was "apologetic" to the officer for the inconvenience saying it was a case of "mistaken identity". "As I had been maintaining, that I was a victim of a mistaken identity has now been vindicated," said the 43-year-old officer who returned here from New Delhi. Commander Swain is presently posted at Cuttack as naval NCC commanding officer. The CBI had raided the naval officer’s house in Bhubaneswar in June last year and had seized Swain’s cell phone, computer, a few CDs, floppies and had frozen his bank accounts. In a nation-wide raid, CBI sleuths had simultaneously searched the houses and offices of at least seven naval officers, including that of Swain who was accused of trying to procure confidential documents of the Armed Forces. When asked, Mr. Swain said he had no plans to file any defamation suit against the CBI. "I am happy that my name has been cleared from this disgracing episode. Although, it was really humiliating over these days as it had tarnished my image, I have no complaints as because the CBI was doing its duty", said an Mr. elated Swain. He however, said he had failed to understand how his name figured in the case saying he had never got a posting in naval headquarters or was remotely connected to naval procurements at anytime. "I was never posted at New Delhi and have never got an occasion to even visit the naval headquarters. I don’t know how the war room or the Directorate Naval Operations office looks like. I also do not know other individuals who are named in the FIR", he said.
