Left, DMK have created uncertainty: Advani

Bhopal: “The Left parties and the DMK are the two major factors that have created a situation of uncertainty for the Manmohan Singh government.

The only thing that is certain is that mid-term election will take place before the first half of 2008,” BJP leader L.K. Advani said on Saturday.

The India-U.S. nuclear deal and Ramar Sethu would be campaign issues, he said at a public meeting held on the sidelines of the BJP national executive here.

The Left was strongly opposing the nuclear deal, while the DMK was trying to create “unrest by making all-out efforts to demolish Ramar Sethu,” thereby compounding the situation for the Congress-led coalition, Mr. Advani said.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said the BJP’s protest against the nuclear deal was different from that of the Left. His party believed in fostering good relations with the U.S., while the Left had been maintaining an anti-U.S. stand.

Mr. Advani said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi should apologise to the people for denying the existence of Lord Rama.

BJP president Rajnath Singh said if the National Democratic Alliance came to power again, it would enact a law on the lines of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). Referring to the Parliament attack case, Mr. Singh alleged the Congress-led UPA government was protecting the accused Afzal Guru from gallows with an aim to garner Muslim votes.

On the recommendations of the Sachar Committee, he said the exercise was aimed at dividing the country further on communal lines.

The BJP chief said his party would oppose any move to provide reservation on the basis of religion.

It was not against reservation for the poor, the BJP chief said. — PTI
