CPI(M) condemns remarks

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and All India Kisan Sabha general secretary, K.Varadharajan, has condemned the remarks made by Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ram Vilas Vedanti against Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Mr. Varadharajan was here to attend a national executive of the sabha here on Sunday. He told reporters that Mr. Vedanti’s statement [announcing a reward in gold for Mr. Karunanidhi’s head and tongue] smacked of arrogance. Mr. Varadharajan said that before going into the merits of Mr. Karunanidhi’s observation, the Centre should have clarified its stand on ‘Ramayana.’ There was no mention about the Ramar Sethu in the epic, he said.

“Some authors have also vouched that the Lanka mentioned in the epic was situated in northern India and was not the present geographical entity called Sri Lanka,” he added.
