To be planted on ‘two acre’ lands as add-on facility
PUDUKOTTAI: Under the Cluster development programme as an add-on facility under the ‘free two acre land’ scheme, the District Collector S. J. Chiru distributed saplings to 10 beneficiaries of Vellapillaiyarpatti village in Kannankudi village panchayat in Kulathur block in the district on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the saplings of amla and guava had been identified as best suited horticultural crops for the village, based on soil tests conducted in the area.
He also said that an integrated development programme being implemented jointly by the Agricultural Engineering, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Agriculture Department aimed at ensuring an assured returns to the farmers.
A sum of Rs.2.48 lakh had been spent for sinking a deep borewell in the area to meet the irrigation needs of 20 acres.
He appealed to the farmers to take maximum advantage of the infrastructure and irrigational facilities.
The Executive Engineer, Agricultural Engineering, Chellamuthu and the Joint Director of Agriculture K. Arivazhagan were among those who participated.
