‘Weaker sections will get reservation in tender allotment’

MYSORE: Apart from promising clean drinking water, streetlights and roads, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has promised to provide reservation to weaker sections in the allotment of tenders, work and contracts in the city.

Releasing the party’s manifesto for the September 28 elections to the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) here on Sunday, BSP State president Gopal said the party would provide reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the award of tenders, work and parking and other contracts of the urban local bodies.

If elected to power, the party would ensure that all roadside vendors would be provided permanent premises, he said.

Mr. Gopal said the BSP, which had fielded candidates in 36 wards of the MCC, would provide clean drinking water and streetlights in all the lanes and by-lanes of the city. It would also provide superior quality road and hospitals equipped with all necessary facilities.

The party would implement a programme to find a permanent solution to the problems faced by poor people during the rainy season, besides providing all necessary amenities to schools, Mr. Gopal said.

The party would construct toilets in these house of all families in Mysore that are below the poverty line.

Mr. Gopal also said that medium and small-scale shop owners were in large numbers in Mysore.

Although they contributed a substantial sum to the civic body’s revenue, such shop owners were not being provided even the basic amenities, he said.
