‘Trend in civic polls is in favour of Janata Dal(S)’ ‘Only during Janata Dal(S) regime, pro-people schemes were implemented’ BELLARY: The transfer of power from the Janata Dal(Secular) to Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) will happen only if the latter agrees to the conditions. If not the former was ready for any eventuality, said Merajuddin Patel, president of the State unit of Janata Dal(S). Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said that neither Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy nor Janata Dal(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda had said that power would not be transferred to the BJP. But Mr. Gowda had said that it would happen only if the BJP agreed to the conditions imposed. “The Janata Dal(S) has discussed the “pros and cons” of handing over power. As of now, the Janata Dal(S ) has suffered after entering into a coalition with the BJP while the latter gained all advantage. The party leadership has taken all these issues into account and was ready for both change of power or election,” he said. Without disclosing as to what the conditions were, Mr. Patel said that Mr. Gowda would meet the BJP leaders and then a decision would be taken. Mr. Patel claimed that the trend in the elections to the urban civic bodies was in favour of Janata Dal(S) and a large number of people, especially minorities, were returning to the party after seeing the achievements of the Kumaraswamy government. “We will be getting more number of seats than the other political parties in these elections,” he said. According to him, it was only during the Janata Dal (S) regime that many pro-people and pro-farmer programmes had been announced which included waiver of farm loans, bus passes for students, enhancement of pension to the aged and widows and importance given to women and the girl child by introducing several welfare schemes. Earlier, Mr. Patel went round a couple of wards in the city to campaign for the party and met several local leaders. N. Suryanarayan Reddy Kurgodu MLA and political secretary to the Chief Minister, was among the local party leaders present.
