BIJAPUR: The District Minority Development Committee has condemned the “fatwa” issued by a Uttar Pradesh-based Muslim clergy against Bollywood actor Salman Khan for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. Addressing a press conference along with some leading personalities from Muslim community, committee president Hashimpeer Walikar said the “fatwa” was in no way tenable, and the community people in large would not support such an “outdated” thoughts. Many Hindus celebrated Muslim festivals. Most “darghas” had large following among Hindus. Likewise, Muslims took active part in Hindu festivals. Such edicts would not only demean the community but also send wrong message to society that was in need of moderation.
