Tourism facilities improved in Kolli Hills

Breathtaking: The improved Seekuparai viewpoint in Kolli Hills in Namakkal district.

NAMAKKAL: The district administration has spent Rs. 48 crore for implementing various development works under various schemes in the Kolli Hills during the last 16 months, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said. The Collector, while inspecting the progress of the works in the hills on Saturday, said that basic amenities including drinking water supply provisions, sanitary facilities and roads had been created in the villages in these hills.

Improved roads

The administration completed a majority of the development works including the creation of tourist amenities. Moreover, the roads connecting several villages in the hills were improved.

The Seekkuparai view point was improved at a cost of Rs. 25.5 lakh. Approach road to the viewpoint and resting facility for the tourists was also created.

Installation of handrails, alteration of steps leading to Akasa Ganga waterfalls and levelling of ground near the waterfalls had been completed. The administration had spent over Rs. 1 crore for improving the tourism facilities here.

The Collector further said that efforts were on to create more self-employment opportunities for the tribal people living here. Women self-help groups would be encouraged to set up shops near the tourist spots .
