Minister holds review meet on developmental activities pertaining to the port Possibility of setting up fishing harbour at Krishnapatnam on the cards MUTHUKUR: The Krishnapatnam port will handle containers, coal and iron ore as the first phase construction of three berths - containers, coal and iron ore - will be completed by June 2008. Announcing this after holding a review meeting on developmental activities pertaining to Krishnapatnam port here on Saturday, Minister for Ports and Infrastructure Mopineni Venkataramana said container berth and stack yard area with all modern handling equipment, coal berth with shipping unloader and conveyor system and iron ore berth with ship loader and separate conveyor system and wagon tipplers would be ready by next year. The Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited would complete another five berths by 2010, he said. Road lanesBesides, road lanes from Nellore to Krishnapatnam, Krishnapatnam to Venkatachalam and Krishnapatnam to Pudiparthi would also be laid on a par with the national highway standards. And the rail link with dedicated rail sidings for handling containers and bulk cargoes would also be commissioned in phase-I with a view to adequately assuring road and rail connectivity, he said. The Minister said that the Government would also examine the possibility of setting up a fishing harbour at Krishnapatnam. Information and Public Relations Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Sarvepalli legislator Adala Prabhakara Reddy and senior officials were also present at the review meeting.
