Saudi deaths shock Malappuram

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Vazhikkadavu panchayat and its neighbourhood woke up on Saturday to the tragic news of three deaths in an accident in Saudi Arabia. Three people belonging to Vazhikkadavu in Malappuram district were charred to death when their car collided with a van at Khamish Musheid in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening.

Two of their friends suffered injuries, one of them critically, in the accident. They were on their way back to Khamish Musheid, where they lived, after performing Umra at Mecca.

Confusion followed as early reports spoke of five deaths, then four, and then three. Confirmation soon came from Saudi Arabia that Inamul Rahman, 32, son of Karimarode Mohammed Koya belonging to Poovathipuzha; Abdul Rahman, 38, son of Pariyamkandathil Moideenkutty belonging to Anamari; and Abdul Ali, 32, son of Variyamthodika Hamza belonging to Muringamunda were killed in the accident. Maruthungal Noushad, 25, belonging to Karuvarakundu, and Faizal belonging to Othayi near Edavanna were admitted to Al-Noor Hospital, Mecca, with injuries.

The condition of Noushad, who is Inamul Rahman’s brother-in-law, is critical. Reports reaching here said the bodies of the dead were charred beyond recognition as Inamul Rahman’s 1990 model Mercedes caught fire after crashing into the van. It was his passport that helped the Saudi authorities identify the body. The deceased were working in Khamish Musheid for the past several years.

Inamul Rahman and Abdul Rahman have three daughters each. Abdul Ali has four children.
