Hosur: Amidst tight security, the procession of nearly 200 Vinayaka idols passed off peacefully in Hosur town on Sunday.
The district administration had issued several directions for taking out processions. The police had made elaborate security arrangements and allowed devotees to take out processions only through specified routes. They were not permitted to stop the procession en route.
Idols made of Plaster of Paris and other chemicals were not allowed. Processions organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) began at Ram Nagar and passed through Netaji Road and Rayakottai Road before the idols were immersed at Pachikulam.
Additional police pickets were posted all along the procession route.
The stretch between Ram Nagar and Taluk Office Road was closed for traffic.
Residents in Krishnagiri district immersed Ganesha idols at the following places: Hosur and neighbouring areas - Pachaikulam, Thenkanikottai - Pettarayaswamy Temple Pond, Mathakondapalli - Thali Lake, Rayakottai - Panchapalli and KRP Dam water course, Uthanapalli - Thenpennai River, Krishnagiri, Bargur and Kaveripattanam - KRP Dam.
In Dharmapuri district, idols were immersed in Cauvery River and Chinaar River.
