PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N.Rangasamy has said that he had asked Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to allot additional seats for candidates belonging to the Union Territory in Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in proportion to the increase in the total number of medical seats from 75 to 100. In a statement here on Sunday, Mr.Rangasamy said he had written to Dr. Ramadoss on Saturday pleading for issuance of a Government Order in this regard. He was making the plea on behalf of the people of Puducherry, he added. Minister thankedMr.Rangasamy also thanked the Union Health Minister for increasing the total number of MBBS seats in JIPMER for the academic year 2007-2008. As of now, out of the 75 seats, 17 seats in general category and three in the Scheduled category had been earmarked for students belonging to the Union Territory, he pointed out. Engineering collegeMr.Rangasamy also said that the Government, as announced in the last session of the Assembly, had taken steps to start an engineering college in Karaikal . AdmissionAdmission of candidates through the Centralised Admission Committee for a total of 180 seats - 60 each for computer science, information technology and electronics - would commence on Monday, Mr. Rangasamy said.
