CHENNAI: The Foreshore Estate police on Saturday arrested three persons in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man.
Police said the man, identified as P. Johnson and a resident of Palavakkam, was on Friday sleeping in a tipper lorry.
The vehicle was used to transport sand from a construction site in MRC Nagar. The driver and the cleaner of the lorry with the driver of an earthmover filled the lorry with sand without checking whether anyone was in the vehicle.
Johnson, who was buried under the sand, died.
The incident came to light when the sand was unloaded near Tiruvanmiyur.
The police arrested lorry driver M. Velumurugan (31), cleaner K. Mahendran (19) and earthmover driver S. Rajasekar (24).
The three persons were remanded to custody, police added.
