The quality of food products and drinking water must be subjected to rigorous analysis in authentic laboratories before consumption by the general public. For this purpose, the Government must establish suitable testing laboratories equipped with modern analytical tools and instruments handed by suitable trained manpower. Adulterated products, sub standard materials and unauthorised blends and mixes are widely marketed in the State. Bottled drinking water under different brands are marketed without any type of quality assurance. Food products and food additives are freely marketed without any quality assurance. Rural areas are worst affected in this respect. The way the food inspectors’ work is causing much damage to the general health of the consumers.G. Azeemoddin, Anantapur Unwise decisionAt last, the axe has fallen on the sub post office at Satyanarayanapet, Guntakal, which has been closed down, affecting thousands of people consisting of all strata of society, with regards to their utility of the essential postal services. The decision was taken without any announcement or notification, in spite of public petitions. In the name of cost cutting, Government departments cannot be closed, affecting the lives of common people. R. Dwarakanatha Rao, Guntakal Need for long-term visionThe recent incessant rain has wreaked havoc on city life. Water-clogged roads, disrupted traffic, inundated low-lying areas. Hapless hut-dwellers awaiting the receding waters and the indifferent attitude of the administration are the scary scenarios whenever it rains cats and dogs. People have to wade through knee-deep water in some places. Right vision of the officials concerned may remedy these seasonal calamities. S.M.Basha, Kurnool Comments in bad tasteThe Central Government’s intention to save fuel by bringing down the Ramar Sethu bridge between India and Sri Lanka hurts the sentiments of people. The sentiments of people were respected by the rulers like Asoka but the rulers these days are prone to buy problems, never realising the impending reactions. P. Satyanarayana, Hanamkonda
