Insufficient supply to UPCL from central pool NCP to undertake agitation on issue Dehra Dun: An acute electricity and water crisis has hit Dehra Dun and adjoining areas, disrupting industrial operations. Official sources said the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) was not getting adequate electricity supply from the central pool leading to frequent power breakdowns in the Sate. Due to the electricity disruption, the storage overhead tanks of Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, the nodal agency for the supply of drinking water to the state, were not getting filled. The officials of Jal Sansthan admitted that water supply was badly affected in the city and adjoining area. Following the water and electricity crisis, resentment was growing in the city. Industrial output was being affected in Dehra Dun’s industrial areas like Selaquie, Langha Road and other areas with several business chambers urging the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter. Five to six hours of electricity breakdown was being reported in these industrial areas, industry sources said. Taking a dig at the BJP government’s resolve to take austerity measures, State Congress spokesman Surendra Kumar said, “electricity and water crisis is apparently due to austerity measures being taken by the Chief Minister.” NCP state president S.K. Dhasmana said his party would undertake an agitation on the issue. — PTI
