JAIPUR: Rajasthan Minister of State for Technical Education Vasudeo Devnani has said the private polytechnic colleges shortly starting in 23 districts of the State would create an atmosphere of healthy competition and improve educational standards, leading to enhancement of skills among students and their better placement. Addressing a review meeting of principals of Government polytechnic colleges here over the week-end, Mr. Devnani said the field of technical education should attract young talents and lay emphasis on inculcating the competitive spirit and evolving better management practices. Mr. Devnani affirmed that collective efforts were the need of the hour to improve the quality of technical education, which would result in transfer of technology and constant development of ideas and resources and enable the students to keep pace with the fast changing technology. State Technical Education Secretary G.S. Sandhu said as many as 11,000 engineers and 31,000 technicians would be needed in the State during the 11th and 12th Five Year Plans, when the power production would touch a record 12,000 MW. There were several others sectors where technical education would be found useful, he added. Principals of polytechnic colleges attending the meeting gave several suggestions for capacity enhancement, finding potential in unexplored sectors and aptitude development among skilled workers.
