SP to launch stir against Mayawati Govt.

ALLAHABAD: Accusing the BSP of running a “fascist and vindictive” government in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday announced that it would launch a state-wide agitation next week against the regime that is “insensitive” to the needs of the common man.

“Our party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had, after the victory of BSP in Assembly polls in May this year, decided to wait and watch for six months. Although only four months have passed, the fascist and vindictive style of functioning of Chief Minister Mayawati has become unbearable for the people of the State,” SP district President Kamal Singh Yadav told reporters here. He alleged that the incidence of crime has risen during the rule of the BSP, which had achieved power with the promise of establishing the rule of law.

“The BSP government has done nothing to improve law and order except targeting our party workers and harassing them by falsely implicating them in various cases,” Yadav said. He also lambasted the Mayawati government for the ban imposed on student union elections. - PTI
