‘Campaigning must end by Wednesday’

BANGALORE: The State Election Commission (SEC) has directed all political parties to end campaigning for the forthcoming civic polls by 7 a.m. on September 26, which is 48 hours before the day of voting.

According to a press release issued by SEC Deputy Secretary H.S. Udayshankar, all public meetings, processions and campaigns by candidates should end then.

He has urged all political parties to cooperate with the SEC in enforcing this rule.

The State Government has declared a public holiday on September 28 for all Government offices, industries, city municipal corporations, town municipal corporations, zilla panchayats, educational institutions, nationalised banks, Life Insurance Corporation and other Government-run establishments in the jurisdiction of the local bodies going to polls.

According to a pressrelease, the holiday (that has been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act), will not be applicable for all staff managing emergency services.
