It will have special search engines and web-support BANGALORE: The Kannada Ganaka Parishat will upgrade its popular Kannada software “Nudi” with new features that include special search engines, web-support and utilities. Secretary of the parishat G.N. Narashima Murthy told The Hindu here on Sunday that the research by the parishat to determine the compatibility of “Nudi” on Microsoft Word platform found that there had to be a series of changes in the software to make it more user friendly and compatible with its English software cousins. To begin with, the parishat would upgrade the spell-check engine. This would give the software-user many options and the use of Kannada would be wider than ever, he said. In another feature expected to come up in November, the parishat intended to introduce “on fly converter” to the software to facilitate script change from Unicode to ANSI and vice versa. This change had been sought by many users and the converter would bring in changes to help Kannadigas work on Kannada software in a user-friendly manner. The special toggle switch to shift from “Nudi” to Word had also been developed by the parishat, Mr. Murthy said. This would make the shift from Word to “Nudi” and vice versa easy. If a Kannada word had to be placed in the middle of an English text, all one had to do was to press that toggle button, he said. Another addition to the Kannada software was the web support option. The user would be able to create web files easily and post them on the sites or view his documents as a web page. It would spur developt of a new breed of Kannada webmasters in the near future, Mr. Murthy said. In the utilities segment, “Nudi” will have several new features, including the “find and replace”, “replace as you type” and a special engine for sorting text in alphabetical order, and all that will come in November.
