Rythu Bazaars

Rythu Bazaars are supposed to supply fresh vegetables at prices affordable to people. But, at present, Rythu Bazaars are occupied by vendors like any other market. We do not find any farmer at Rythu Bazaar. Furthermore, the entrance to the Rythu Bazaar is fully encroached by fruit vendors and others. Officials are unable to control the ‘political petty mafia’, which collects mamools. The government needs to take a serious view of the problem.

Needs proper planning

The low-lying areas downstream the Krishna River have been inundated and are under four feet of water following heavy inflows into the Prakasam Barrage and discharge from there. People living in Ramalingeswara Nagar, Ranadivenagar, Ranigarithota, and Bupesh Gupta Nagar are worst victims. It’s time for the municipal corporation officials to chalk out an action plan and find a permanent solution to the problem.

Check irregularities

VAT notices slapped on lorry owners transporting the petro products of Reliance Industries a week ago has left them shell-shocked. Lorry owners contend that Reliance Logistics, which pays transport charges to the lorry operators, has mentioned in some invoices that they are exempted from paying the VAT. It is time the Government constitute a committee with the Vigilance & Enforcement officials of the Commercial Taxes Department to look into the alleged irregularities.

Violation of rules

It has become a common practice for the builders in the city to violate the rules and deviate from the plans approved by the VMC. A furniture showroom at Srinivasa Towers in Krishnalanka was recently engulfed in fire. It is a classic example of flouting the rules laid down by the civic authority. Many such incidents, including the one in Agri Gold on M.G. Road, footwear shop at Hanumanpet, and Rythu Bhavan on Ring Road, have taken place in the city in recent past. VMC officials and the Fire Services Department should make coordinated efforts to check the irregularities.

BJP’s doublespeak?

BJP leader L.K. Advani has recently stated that every citizen has a constitutional duty to respond against any action that outrages the religious feelings of a community . I would like to point out that the officials have not responded and registered any case even though many people were brutally beaten up by the members of BJP and VHP in different parts of Madhya Pradesh. In fact, the law has been twisted and interpreted according to the whims and fancies of the culprits.
