Government accused of improper handling of rain relief Congress confident of winning in civic polls Brahmavar (Udupi District): B. Janardhana Poojary, MP, said here on Sunday that the Congress party had no intention of joining hands with the Janata Dal (S) to form a government in the State, if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Janata Dal (S) coalition collapsed. Addressing presspersons, Mr. Poojary said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his recent visit to Bangalore made it clear that there was no question of Congress aligning with the Janata Dal (S). The State Government was lax in assessing the damage caused by floods in the districts of North Karnataka, he charged. It had claimed that the value of damage estimated at Rs. 5,000 crore had been submitted to Union Government. But in reality, the assessment was only for Rs. 600 crore. The grants released in last year for drought relief by the Centre had not been fully utilised. However a Central team was conducting the survey to assess the damage caused by rain in North Karnataka, he said. The Congress party has bright chances of winning in the urban local bodies’ elections. The district in charge and Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya had not done enough for the development of Udupi city Mr. Poojary charged.
Mr. Poojary participated in the inauguration of the Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavan.
