Radhika Selvi conducts aerial survey Centre “received” two memoranda for assistance HUBLI: Minister of State for Home Affairs V. Radhika Selvi said on Sunday that extensive damage had been caused by the floods in Gadag, Dharwad and Bagalkot districts of Karnataka. She was speaking to reporters here after conducting an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas and viewing the video footage of the condition of the affected people. The Minister, however, declined to give further information on the flood situation. She even declined to comment on the “reported delay” in releasing aid by the Centre for relief works. She said she would brief Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil about the situation. B. Murali Kumar, Director, Disaster Management, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, said the Ministry had received two memoranda from the State Government seeking aid of Rs. 406 crore and Rs. 1,500 crore respectively. In response to the first memorandum, a team had visited the affected areas and submitted a report. The request was being processed. The second memorandum was received “recently.” On the “delay” in releasing funds, he said the Ministry had to act as per the procedures.
