Thiruvananthapuram
A MILESTONE: N. Radhakrishnan working on a portrait of President Pratibha Patil. Thiruvananthapuram: When artist N. Radhakrishnan stepped back to view his latest creation, a portrait of President Pratibha Patil, he had reason to be proud. After all, not many painters can claim to have captured 10,000 celebrities on canvas. Political leaders, cultural personalities, writers, matinee idols and celebrities from various walks of life- he has portrayed them all. Mr. Radhakrishnan believes in being true to nature and its creations. “I never draw anything from imagination,” he says. He usually hands over the original to his subject and is content with keeping a copy for himself. He had presented former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with his portrait. A native of Bharanikavu in Kollam district, Mr.Radhakrishnan honed his skills at the Anayadi Arts College where he studied fine arts. He has also established a fine arts study centre to promote budding artists. Over 100 children are imparted free training at the institute. Following his persistent efforts, the Government has directed the Kollam District Collector to identify land for a permanent premises for the institute.
