BEJJANKI (KARIMNAGAR DT): Representatives of the local bodies were all praise for the Indiramma Sambaralu programme under which houses, pensions and other welfare schemes were sanctioned to the poor in villages. Participating in the Indiramma Sambaralu programme in Bejjanki mandal on Monday, Bejjanki sarpanch D Srinivas said that during the TDP rule there were only 12 pensions in their village. Now, during the second phase of Indiramma programme, the Government has sanctioned 226 pensions to various beneficiaries including old-age, widow and the disabled persons in the village. ``Had the TDP been in power, it would have taken another 20 years for them to get these many pensions for the beneficiaries and by the time majority of them would have died’, he pointed out. Thanking the Government for introducing the Indiramma scheme, he suggested that the Government distribute Antyodaya Anna yojana (AAY) ration cards to all pensioners so that they could eke out their livelihood happily. Pink ration cardsSeveral sarpanches of the mandal have suggested the Government to distribute pink ration cards to all eligible persons. They also suggested that Government take measures for the fast completion of the housing scheme. CPI floor leader in the Assembly Chada Venkat Reddy was also all praise for the State Government for increasing the pensions from Rs. 75 per month to Rs. 200 per month. He said that the pensions from the Bejjanki mandal were only 500 and odd during the TDP regime. During the Indiramma programme, the authorities had issued 726 new pensions in the mandal and additional 200 and odd petitions were also being considered, he added. He also said that during the first phase of Indiramma 613 houses were sanctioned in the mandal and in the second phase 890 houses were sanctioned. Visaka Charitable Trust chairman G Vivek called upon the women to utilize the Government schemes. He also informed the women that their trust would distribute sewing machines to the women groups if they open a tailoring centre. Zilla Parishad chairman Arepalli Mohan, MPP Ravinder Reddy, special officer Ramesh Kumar were also present.
