ERODE: The Erode municipal council has passed a resolution giving its approval for construction of a five-storeyed building for the municipality within the municipal compound, said the Municipal Chairman, K. Kumar Murugesh. He told ‘The Hindu’ on Saturday that the municipality had 45 wards and was carrying out a number of schemes and development works. Soon it would be converted into a Corporation and the number of officials and employees would be increased. So the council already resolved to construct a modern five-storeyed building for the municipal administration. The proposed building would have a council hall and offices of the Municipal Commissioner, Engineer, Town Planning Officer and Health Officer. Separate rooms for the Chairman and Vice-Chairman and councillors’ waiting hall would also be constructed. The new building would be built at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. The resolution would be forwarded to the Government for approval. After getting permission, tenders for the construction works would be floated. Car parking facilityThe Chairman said, “Keeping in mind the future developments, a new building has become necessary.” The building would be built in the old municipal office complex. Proper car parking facilities would also be made. The tax payment counter would also be constructed in the same area. After the completion of the buildings, it would be linked with the present office building.”
