PANAJI: Judicial Magistrate First Class of Panaji Edgar Fernandes has directed that summons be issued to Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and his wife Divya Rane in a criminal complaint filed against them by “Utt Goenkara” spokesman Aires Rodrigues. The magistrate directed the accused to be present in the court on October 15 to answer charges under Section 506 (II) read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Rodrigues had filed a complaint with the Old Goa Police that on July 31 he had received a call on his mobile from Mr. Rane allegedly threatening him. Accusing the police of dragging their feet in the investigation, Mr. Rodrigues filed a criminal complaint. Mr. Rane, who had earlier taken a stand that he did not know the complainant and had not called him, subsequently confessed to the police of having called Mr. Rodrigues on his wife’s mobile on July 31. But he added that he had called him to tell him not to send him derogatory SMSes.
