Pathetic vehicle stand

The condition of the vehicle stand in the Thanjavur new bus stand is bad. There is no response to several representations sent to officials concerned and reports appeared in dailies.

The people of Thanjavur have been patient for long and expect authorities to act immediately.

R. Ravi,

Thanjavur.

Bad condition of roads

Despite letters appearing in this column on the bad condition of the roads at Vallam, the Highways Department has not taken any step to fill potholes. I request the authorities to relay the road immediately for maintaining free flow of traffic on this busy road.

Suhail Ahamed Bijli,

Thanjavur.

Kumbakonam is a famous pilgrim centre. Too many pilgrims are coming to this town daily on a pilgrimage. But the important arterial roads like Besant Road, Gandhi Park, North and ARR road are in a bad condition.

Even pedestrians are unable to walk on the roads. The underground drainage work in Kumbakonam was completed long ago and even after that the roads are not relayed.

Since monsoon is nearing, the authorities should relay the above arterial roads.

M. Ramanathan,

Kumbakonam.

Set right bus stand

The condition of the Kumbakonam bus stand is pathetic.

Buffaloes and cows from the surrounding areas are loitering inside making the bus stand floor dirty. To add fuel all two-wheelers, cars, autos are moving inside creating panic among passengers.

People are using all corners as toilets. Will the authorities concerned ban the entry of private vehicles?

K. Santhanam,

Kumbakonam.

Open bank accounts

On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, on November 19, the Government of India has proposed to extend the national old age pension scheme to all citizens who are of 65 years old and below poverty line. Nearly 1.57 crore people are going to be benefited at an estimated cost of Rs.4,300 crore with a monthly pension of Rs.400 system by asking the beneficiaries to open savings bank accounts with ATM facilities. Otherwise, the Government would have to incur an additional cost of Rs.3.95 crore per annum for the cost of money order forms and the commission at Rs.5 per hundred rupees.

R.S. Moorthy,

Karur.
