PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Government has announced various events, including a photography contest, treasure hunt and numismatics exhibition to mark the World Tourism Day on September 27. An official release here on Sunday said that the photography contest titled “Shoot at Site” would be held for amateur and professional photographers “to capture the unexplored avenues, virgin beaches and lazy backwaters in their frame.” Each of the contestants should submit a maximum of five photographs and the output should be presented as photographic print and as digital images on compact discs. The maximum size of the print should be 4” x 6”. All entries should reach the office of the Director of Tourism in Puducherry on or before September 25. Prizes would be awarded to the first three best photographs, the release said. Another event planned as part of the celebrations would be “Discover Puducherry Treasure Hunt”. It was meant for tourists and locals “to take the clues, put on their thinking cap, and set their train of thought in motion to discover the hidden attractions of Puducherry.” All the teams — each having two members — should bring a car of any make for the contest. “The first three teams which crack the clue and reach the finishing point will be adjudged winners and will be given attractive prizes,” the release said, adding that those interested in taking part in the event could contact the organisers at 0413-2339497 or 98400-28262. A numismatics exhibition would be held at Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School in Puducherry from September 27 to 29. A debate in Tamil on the benefits of tourism would be held at Gandhi Thidal on the Beach Road. A Tourism Fair, showcasing the major tourist attractions of various States, would be held in the same venue. “This will provide a platform for the people of Puducherry to source information and tourism products of major tourism destinations. A cultural extravaganza by the students of Centre for Tourism Studies in Pondicherry University would take place in the evening at Gandhi Thidal. A live programme of life-guarding in the sea would be demonstrated to the public on September 27 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the Beach Road near Gandhi Statue, the release added.
