‘Manthan Award 2007’ for Narsaraopet website

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: The Narsaraopet-based ‘Friends To Support’ organisation has been awarded the prestigious national award ‘The Manthan Award 2007’ for being the best digital content being used in the development of society.

At the International Conference on e-content and Sustainability organised by the Digital Empowerment Foundation in association with the Department of Information Technology and American India Foundation in New Delhi on September 21 and 22 the award was presented to the website ( www.friends2support.org) maintaining a database on voluntary blood donors under e-health category.

Presentation

The organisation represented by founder Shaikh K. Shareef and Chief Advisor Ramesh Susarla made a presentation on the concept and salient features of the website before receiving the award.

Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda in his inaugural address called upon people to come out with original ideas that were educative and at the same time entertaining. “Majority of the educative content today was not entertaining and entertainment over the TV channels was not educative. The right balance had to be drawn for digital content to be useful to the grassroots people of the country,” Mr. Pitroda opined.

Congratulating the 39 winners under 15 categories from among 353 nominees from 27 States and Union Territories, he observed that there were a good number of nominations and winners from Andhra Pradesh.

A 20-member jury comprising experts from the field and Government officials screened the nominations. An exhibition on use of e-content in various fields by Governmental agencieswas showcased at the India Islamic Cultural Centre.
