Create awareness on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005
Society should give due respect to women
NAMAKKAL: Gender equality should be maintained in society, State Commission for Women Chairperson K.M. Ramathal has said.
She was speaking at a seminar on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act organised by the Commission at Paavai Engineering College here on Sunday.
She said that society should give due respect to women. They should have the freedom to live on their own terms, earn and get education. She said that verbal abuse against women was also a form of violence.

Other speakers in the programme stressed that the level of awareness about the Act among women, particularly those living in the rural areas, should be increased.
They said that women could approach the protection officer in the district, non-governmental organisations or the police to register their complaint, if they faced domestic violence.
