Seeking a fair deal: Cable TV operators observing a fast in Tuticorin on Monday.

Tuticorin: The cable television operators affiliated to Tamil Nadu Cable-television Operators Association (TCOA) observed fast here on Monday, to protest the Sun TV group’s strategy to promote its Direct to Home (DTH) service.

According to the operators, the offer of Rs.75 a month besides Rs.999 as installation charges from the Sun group had threatened the existence of the cable TV operators.

“We were already paying huge amounts every month to the Sun group for providing their channels to the subscribers. In this scenario, if the DTH was offered at very low rates, it would have a cascading effect on our business,” A Selvin, joint secretary, TCOA, Tuticorin unit, said.

G. Selvaraj, secretary, See TV ( a local cable TV group) and M.K. Prabhu, president of TCOA, Tuticorin unit, spoke.

About 100 persons took part in the agitation.
