TIRUPATI: The APSRTC transported 7.46 lakh passengers to Tirumala (up and down) during the annual nine-day Brahmotsavams that concluded on Sunday.
As many as 410 buses were operated at the rate of almost two services a minute, while on important days, the buses had to crawl bumper-to-bumper on the Ghat road to clear peak hour rush.
Tirumala temple witnesses two Brahmotsavams this year and as a result the crowd influx has been less than normal this time. It is expected to soar again during the second Brahmotsavams that runs concurrently with Navaratri.
8.5 lakh last year
The number of passengers transported during the corresponding period in 2006 was 8.50 lakh.
