KADAPA: APCC official spokesman N. Thulasi Reddy on Monday alleged grave irregularities in irrigation project works under the TDP regime and alleged misappropriation to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crores in the nine-year rule. While contractors were paid a mobilisation advance of 10 per cent in Mr. Chandrababu Naidu’s rule, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy reduced the advance to 5 per cent, he asserted at a press conference here. The Rajasekhara Reddy Government paid mobilisation advance of Rs. 2,102 crores but recovered Rs. 1,028 crores, he said.
Refuting the TDP leaders’ charges that the Congress Government had jacked up project estimates, he said 54 irrigation projects envisaged to irrigate one crore acres of land in the State were estimated to cost Rs. 1 lakh crore, while 26 projects were estimated to cost Rs. 46,000 crore to irrigate 65 lakh acres in 1996. Fifteen irrigation projects were taken up during the TDP rule when leakages, breaches and sub-standard work were the order of the day, Dr. Thulasi Reddy alleged.
