Army XI Red manages a draw

BANGALORE: Army XI Red, the title contender, dropped two more crucial points in a 2-2 draw against ASC in the Super Division hockey league at the KSHA stadium.

The Reds, having dropped points against Green, looked woefully off-tune on Monday and trailed ASC before neutralising in the 58th minute.

Army Red now has three wins and two draw for 11 points while for ASC this was its first point in five matches.

M.C. Ganapathi put ASC in the lead in the fifth minute but the fancied outfit struck back through Anil Kumar Ekka.

Arpit Singh once again put ASC in the lead with a 12th minute strike but Renel Singh sounded the boards off a penalty corner to put the teams on even terms.

In the day’s other outing, Army Green scored its second win, also in five games, with a 4-2 scoreline against Karnataka State Police (KSP), for whom it was the fourth loss in six matches.

S.P. Tirkey struck an early (fourth minute) penalty corner goal for the winner before Sanjen Singh (15th and 52nd) and Bunty Singh (30th) added to the tally. Lakshman Rao’s brace (31st and 48th) was the consolation for the policemen.

While Army Green has eight points from five matches, KSP has just four from six.
