‘Elephant village’ planned in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Close on the heels of a ban being imposed on elephants being forced to walk the streets of Mumbai, a sanctuary is being planned in Maharashtra that will primarily be home to the pachyderms rescued from roads.

The Maharashtra Government has earmarked land near Kolhapur for the ‘Elephant village’ that will, in addition to housing the animals and providing them fodder, cater to mahouts. — PTI
