HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has charged the State Government with failing to check the price of onion which has shot up to Rs. 25 a kg in the last few days making it difficult for the common man to buy it.
In a statement, TDP spokesperson Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said the promise made by the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy that onion would be sold at Rs. 7-a-kg at rythu bazar remains on paper. He alleged that the Government had failed to check the large scale diversion of onion into black market. This was done by traders in the name of rain and floods. He also took exception to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar’s assertion that the Centre could not intervene to stabilise the prices.
