Government had generated many jobs apart from filling vacancies, says Minister HYDERABAD: The Congress Government has claimed a huge success in providing employment by recruiting 20,892 persons in the last three years as against as against 4,712 during the previous five-year rule of the Telugu Desam. Responding to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s allegation that the Congress Government had ditched people after promising jobs, Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said the observation of Mr. Naidu was baseless and far from truth. He said the Congress had already filled 20,892 vacancies and recently issued orders for recruiting another 7,994 employees, including 147 for Group I and 1,375 for Group II services of AP Public Service Commission. The Minister maintained that the Government had generated many more jobs apart from filling vacancies in its departments. It had employed 19,698 contract employees and outsourced services of 13,695 others. About 20,000 Vidya Volunteers were enrolled recently. Private sector jobsHe also said the Government laid thrust on private sector employment which received a boost from the textile park near Vizag and the unit of Apache Shoe Company at Tada in Nellore. The textile park near Vizag set up by M/s. Brandix of Sri Lanka would recruit about 60,000 semi-literate people, mostly women, while a workforce of 30,000 was likely for the shoe unit. Mr. Rosaiah added that the pay out in some private sector units was double of that of the Government. Therefore, the Government wanted to create right atmosphere for industrialisation by extending concessions to investors.
