“Work on 5 bridges yet to begin”

CHENNAI: Work on five bridges in Sirkazhi and Vedaranyam assembly constituencies has not yet been taken up, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam said on Monday. In a statement, party general secretary Jayalalithaa said the work was sanctioned in October 2005, when her party was in power.

It was to be taken up as part of the tsunami scheme.

It was only a couple of months ago that the financial allocation was made.

This proved that the Government’s claim of completing all tsunami-related works in a year remained on paper.
