CHENNAI: About 50,000 job seekers are expected to attend the fourth Chennai edition of The Hindu Opportunities Fair at the Chennai Trade Centre on September 29 and 30.
“It really is an opportunities fair, not just a job fair,” said Venkatesan Seshadri, vice-president of talent acquisition at Cognizant, the presenting sponsor of the fair. “It will create opportunities, match opportunities with individuals and give individuals an opportunity to improve themselves.”
More than 35 companies from the engineering, information technology, IT enabled services and business process outsourcing sectors will take part in the fair, including Cognizant and its fellow sponsors Patni Computer Systems, Covansys and Sutherland Global Services. Other leading participants include Wipro Technologies, Larsen and Toubro, NIIT, HSBC and Allsec Technologies.
There will be jobs on offer for both fresh graduates and professionals with up to 10 years experience.
“The expectations have gone up because of global competition. The benchmark today is not the same as it was two years ago,” said Mr. Seshadri.
While entry to the fair is free, Supratik Datta, deputy general manager, The Hindu, for advertisement and marketing, advised candidates to register online at www.thehindu.com or at www.tmifirst.com/hf6/index.aspx before attending the fair. Candidates should bring along a printout of the online registration acceptance along with at least 15 copies of their resumes. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation will run 50 additional buses from different parts of the city to the Chennai Trade Centre on both the days of the fair.
