Collector flags off seven-day exposure tour
THENI: The District Mission Committee of National Horticulture Mission has organised a seven-day farmers’ exposure visit to Karnataka to enable farmers to get hands on experience and learn about precision farming, hi-tech horticulture, biotechnology, tissue culture and micro irrigation system, Collector Har Sahay Meena has said.
Flagging off the farmers’ tour here on Monday, he said 100 farmers from different areas had been chosen for this tour with a financial assistance of Rs.2,500 per farmer.
Such training will boost production and productivity of horticulture crops in the district. The total area under horticulture crops was 38, 216 hectares, 34 per cent of the total 1.12 lakh hectares. The team will visit Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, banana and mango field in Kolar, Kuppam project area for micro irrigation system, precision farming areas and mango pulp industry in Krishnagiri district.
Main objective of the programme was to assist farmers to learn more about latest technologies, innovative methods adopted by other farmers, post harvest management and marketing system, he added.
