25,000 petitions pending in different departments

BANGALORE: Not many turned up with grievances at the meet organised by the city police on Monday. The poor response made the police to end the grievance redressal meeting within 10 minutes.

The city police organised the meeting to coincide with the visit of R. Suresh, Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Public Grievance Cell), on Monday. Mr. Suresh was here to review the working of the grievance redressal mechanism in the Police Commissioner’s office.

The meeting began at 4 p.m. in the presence of Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao and Mr. Suresh. It was closed at 4.10 p.m. after receiving three grievances.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Suresh said 41 grievances were pending with the Police Commissioner’s office. The pending petitions related to land disputes. He asked the officials concerned to dispose of the cases within the next 45 days. He said there were 25,000 petitions pending disposal in different departments in the State.

Mr. Suresh said addressing the security concerns of the growing city he has sent a proposal for creation of an anti-terrorist squad.

Mr. Achuta Rao said the grievance redressal cell set up in the Police Commissioner’s office was quickly disposing of petitions.
