Komarapalayam Municipality to improve houses in slum areas

80 persons to upgrade thatched roof houses

Government to pay 80 per cent of cost


KOMARAPALAYAM: The Municipality here on Tuesday issued work orders to 80 persons to upgrade their thatched roof houses to concrete ones.

According to Municipal Commissioner K. Balakrishnan, under the Government of India’s Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme, 80 houses would be upgraded to concrete ones on Gandhi Adigal Street.

Of the total expenditure of Rs. 80,000 that would be needed for a house, the Central Government would bear 80 per cent, the State Government 10 per cent and the beneficiary would be expected to chip in with the rest of the amount, he said.

The work would be carried out in four phases under the supervision of the Municipality officials.

After execution of each phase, the civic body would release the amount, he added.
