Four of the witnesses to be examined on September 27 and 28 NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed a petition by Vikas Yadav, prime accused in the Nitish Katara murder case, seeking a direction to the trial court hearing the case to give him more time to examine his remaining witnesses. Allowing the petition, Justice V. B. Gupta directed Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur to examine four of his witnesses on September 27 and 28. The four witnesses to be examined are Tanu Chaudhury, the estranged wife of Ajay Katara, Circle Officer of the Ghaziabad police, and two private news channels’ reporters. Ajay Katara is a key prosecution witness in the case. Besides, Mr. Justice Gupta gave liberty to the accused to produce his other witnesses for recording their statement before the final arguments begin in the case. The trial court has fixed October 6 as the date for beginning the final arguments. Counsel for Vikas Yadav submitted that his client had submitted a list of 23 witnesses to the trial court but only half of them had been examined so far. The trial court had concluded the recording of statements of the defence witnesses on September 20 as directed by the High Court. Vikas and Vishal Yadavhave been charged with allegedly kidnapping young Nitish Katara, son of a former IAS officer, here in 2002, and later killed him .
