NEW DELHI: A delegation from Aligarh Muslim University led by Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis met Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh here on Monday to apprise him of recent incidents of violence on the campus. “They apprised him of the different incidents that had occurred recently, including the murder of a student, looting, arson and torching of Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge and other installations at AMU,” said a University release on Tuesday. The delegation urged Mr. Arjun Singh to provide a fool-proof security system for the University under the supervision of Central forces. “This is necessary for the security of students, staff and property of the University, especially in view of the tense situation prevailing on the campus,” said the release. Meanwhile, Prof. Azis has ordered suspension of 17 students from the rolls of the University pending an inquiry into their alleged involvement in the violent protests on the campus. “These students had ransacked the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge and other offices of the University. Prof. Azis has ordered that the campus will be out of bounds for them,” said an AMU spokesperson.
