HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India State council has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to take up construction of a memorial to mark the 60th anniversary of Telangana armed struggle. A delegation of CPI leaders comprising the party central secretariat member and MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and the party’s State secretary K. Narayana called on the Chief Minister at the camp office this morning. Dr. Reddy is understood to have asked the them not to stall development by forcibly occupying Government lands in the State. He is reported to have turned down a plea from the CPI leaders to give pattas to the poor, who put up hutments on 20 acres in Rayadurg on the city outskirts besides restoring the land to Chanakyapuri Housing Society. Prime landDr. Reddy reportedly declined the plea stating that the Government was not willing to part with prime land. He urged them to cooperate with the Government as distribution of houses for all the eligible people was given top priority. In the course of discussions with the Left leaders, the Chief Minister said that the Government would be spending Rs. 27,000 crores in the next two years on development of the twin cities.
