Bangalore: Akhila Karnataka State Government Employees’ Federation (AKSGEF) and the Central Government Employees and Workers’ Coordination Committee, Karnataka (CGEWCCK), on Tuesday, criticised the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre for forcing privatisation of the pension scheme. Speaking to reporters, the office bearers of the two organisations demanded that appointment of the pension managers under the contributory pension scheme should be abolished and the old pension system, under which no salary was deducted for the purpose, should be continued. U.D. Narasihmaiah, President and B.S. Sachidananda Murthy, General Secretary of AKSGEF, and V. Muthukumaran, President and S. Radhakrishna, General Secretary of CGEWCCK, said the State Government had not filled up 1.25 lakh vacant posts in the State. Eight lakh posts in the Union Government were abolished in the last five years and 5.5 lakh posts would fall vacant in the next three years because of death or retirement of employees. They said State Governments were denied grants if they failed to follow the Centre’s labour policy. They demanded a national labour policy to ensure pay parity, common retirement age and equal pay for equal work for the workers in the State and Union Government.
