Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Beverages Corporation sold Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs.144.42 crore through its retail outlets in the State during Onam. The highest sale of Rs.24.27 crore was in Ernakulam district followed by Rs.17.99 crore in Thrissur and Rs.16.11 crore in Thiruvananthapuram. According to Minister for Excise and Labour, P.K. Gurudasan, the liquor sale through the retail outlets of the corporation in Kollam district fetched Rs.11.91 crore, Pathanamthitta Rs.15.64 crore and Alapppuzha Rs.6.93 crore. The sale in Kottayam was Rs.10.32 crore, Idukki Rs.5.46 crore, Palakkad and Malappuram Rs.12.51 crore, Kozhikode and Wayanad Rs.13.39 crore and Rs.9.99 crore in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. As many as 1,223 cases were registered in the 14 districts of the State in connection with the production and sale of spurious liquor during the festive period. Surprisingly, the highest number of 177 cases was registered in Kollam district. In Thiruvananthpuram district, 156 cases were registered during the period. The number of cases registered in Pathanamthitta district was 102, Alappuzha, 152, Ernakulam and Kozhikode, 92 each, Palakkad, 80, and 76 in Idukki. The least number of 33 cases were registered in Wayanad district. At present, the corporation has 314 retail outlets in the State. Mr. Gurudasan said the Government was examining setting up more retail outlets of the corporation.
