More colleges plan to offer MBA

R. Krishnamoorthy

Two institutions seek recognition from AICTE

TIRUCHI: The number of arts and science colleges affiliated to Bharathidasan University offering Master of Business Administration is expected to go up to 13 with two colleges seeking recognition for the programme for 2007-08, after obtaining the approval of All India Council for Technical Education.

The university will accord its recognition after sending its teams to assess faculty position, classrooms, seminar and conference halls, library facilities and waiting rooms.

Though the AICTE accords approval to applicants for the programme with a maximum intake of 60 students, the strength in the affiliated colleges ranges between 30 and 60, depending on the facilities.

The university accords provisional recognition for a college starting the course with lesser seats than the maximum limit and carries out another inspection in the event of the institution increasing intake after sprucing up the facilities, according to Registrar V. Radhakrishnan.

The programme is in great demand because of a boom in economy and some of the colleges that are at a disadvantage, owing to location in rural parts, are making efforts to rope in good regular and visiting faculties.

Nevertheless, students enjoy the cost advantage and are favoured by start-up industries that cannot afford to employ candidates passing out from premier management schools.

The concurrent MBA programme introduced last year by the Directorate of Distance Education for regular students of the affiliated colleges is also progressing well. Hundreds of students from seven colleges have registered for it.
